LMS Update: Assignment Status Improvements, Assignment Cancellation & Content Builder Enhancements
We've released several enhancements to the Rootwurks Learning Management System and Content Builder that are designed to improve usability, streamline administration, and provide greater visibility into learner progress and content quality.
Some customers are having difficulty reaching our login page following our system update. To read how to resolve any issues, please read this post from earlier today.
Assignment Status Updates
We have standardized assignment statuses across all content types to provide greater consistency across the platform and improve reporting and audit visibility.
The updated status model uses clearer, more intuitive terminology that better reflects learner activity while providing administrators and auditors with a consistent view of assignment progress.

Previous Status |
New Status |

NOT STARTED |
ASSIGNED |

INCOMPLETE |
IN PROGRESS |

These updates create a unified status framework across courses, checklists, learning plans, and other assigned learning activities. This makes it easier to understand learner progress, manage assignments, and support compliance and audit requirements.
Note: Within a course assignment, individual modules will continue to display a status of NOT STARTED until the learner begins the module.
New Assignment Cancellation Options
Administrators now have additional options for managing assignments after they have been issued.
Unassigning Assignments
Assignments with a status of ASSIGNED can be unassigned. When an assignment is unassigned:
- The assignment record is completely removed.
- The learner will no longer see the assignment.
- No assignment history is retained.
Cancelling Assignments
Assignments with a status of IN PROGRESS can now be cancelled. When cancelling an assignment:
- A cancellation note is required.
- The assignment record is retained for audit and reporting purposes.
- Cancelled assignments are displayed in a grayed-out state.
- Administrators can hide cancelled assignments from view.
Learning Plan Assignment Support
The same unassign and cancel functionality is now available for Learning Plan assignments. When a Learning Plan is cancelled:
- Any courses or checklists that were already COMPLETED will remain COMPLETED.
- Any courses or checklists that were ASSIGNED or IN PROGRESS will be updated to CANCELLED.
This ensures completed learning achievements are preserved while clearly indicating which remaining learning activities were cancelled.
Content Builder: Continuous Content Validation
We've streamlined the content creation process by eliminating the need to manually review modules when building content. Instead, the updated Content Builder continuously validates your course content as you work.
Validation occurs automatically in the background, helping identify issues early and reducing the steps required before publishing.
Continuous validation includes checks for:
- Missing required slide fields
- Synthetic audio generation requirements
- Closed caption availability and validation
- Other content integrity and publishing requirements
By validating content throughout the authoring process, the Content Builder provides immediate feedback and helps ensure courses are ready for publication.
Existing Draft Courses
The first time you open a course that was in “draft” status before this update, you may see a message indicating that the module is being verified. This one-time verification process updates the module to use the new continuous validation system and ensures all content meets current validation requirements.
These enhancements improve assignment management, simplify learner status tracking, enhance audit visibility, and create a faster, more streamlined content authoring experience.
